Rivendell was engaged by the Philadelphia Housing Authority (PHA) to transform their web presence for a major urban center. The legacy site, built on a proprietary .net solution, required significant effort for even minimal updates and was poorly organized, making it difficult for users to find necessary information. After an extensive content review and collaboration with key stakeholders, we developed an intuitive and user-friendly content architecture. Utilizing WordPress and Gutenberg blocks, we equipped PHA with a versatile website that could be managed in-house with minimal external support. Additionally, we conducted a thorough ADA audit of the previous site and implemented best practices to ensure the site met accessibility standards for all audiences. Last year, the legacy server crashed on the busiest day due to performance and traffic issues; since switching, the site has operated effortlessly and without incident. The final site is managed and hosted on a secure server, optimized for high-traffic WordPress sites, underscoring its importance for the vast and diverse population of Philadelphia.

After crafting the framework, we seamlessly migrated all existing content and adapted provided images to align with the new templates. We also engineered a highly versatile WordPress tool that allows for the creation of any type of page within the designed templates, marking it as our most flexible development to date. Upon completion, we compiled a comprehensive user manual and conducted multiple training sessions for staff, continuing to support PHA with ongoing hosting and maintenance. Additionally, in compliance with Section 3 requirements, we are hosting a companion website, PhillySeeds.org.
